I'll be in Northeastern CT for my second trip to this park, as part of a business trip to visit our office that is just south of Boston MA.  This will be another activation from my tent, so I've got my bug spray ready to go!

This time around, the campsite I reserved has AC power, so I'll be running a full 100 watts.  Here's my plan:

August 15th 21:00 UTC  - August 17th 02:00 UTC (With a potential bonus timeslot afterwards, that might be in this park, or in one in RI.)  Watch the cluster just in case!)

Primarily during the hours of 21:00 - 02:00 each evening.

Where you might hear me:
  • 20 Meter Voice, and a bit of CW (I usually do CW on night 2)
  • 40 Meter Voice, and a bit of CW (I usually do CW on night 2)
  • Possibly - 15 meters depending on time and conditions.
  • Possibly - 80 meters depending on time and conditions.
  • I'll also be monitoring 146.52 on the HT if anyone is close by, or driving through and wants to attempt to catch me on FM simplex.

]]><![CDATA[WWFF KFF-2043 Darien Lakes]]>Tue, 20 Jun 2017 04:00:00 GMThttps://www.n3vem.com/events/wwff-kff-2043-darien-lakes     As I sit down to write this post, it is one week before my WWFF-KFF activation of Darien Lakes State Park.  My activations are always in conjunction with work trips, and many of you may have read my lamentations in the POTA Face Book Group that my company instituted a new travel policy, requiring us to stay at certain chain hotels, even if there were cheaper alternatives.
     Well, a new week brings new whims, and I was once again told, "hey, if it's cheaper, who cares - stay where you want!"  So, with that new directive, I set up the tent in the back yard today, so that it can air out, in preparation for my camping WWFF Activiation/Business Trip!  After all, $30 per night for a camp site is much cheaper than the $150 and up that the chain hotels we can choose from usually run.

     This will be my first tent-camping activation for WWFF!  I've done a couple of tent activations before, for Winter Field Day mostly (I even made a short video of the most recent one, which was in my back yard.)  I've also done some WWFF activations from camping cabins and lodges, but this will be the first time for me in a tent, for a WWFF activation.  My setup will very closely mimic the one I did for Winter Field Day 2017, so I really recommend checking out the video I referenced above, if you want to see how I'll be operating. 
     Enough of the chatter!  Here's the details:

My travel schedule for work has been light, which is awesome because when I'm not traveling, I get to work from home, so I've had lots of family time.  
Not traveling does however, mean that I don't do quite as much activating.  With that said, I am making a trip to our New York City office for a couple days at the beginning of the week, next week.  I'll be staying in New Jersey, and plan on activating from Liberty State Park each afternoon/evening when my work for the day is done.
Before everyone gets too excited, this is Liberty State Park - NOT Ellis Island or where the statue of Liberty is located (A much rarer park, for obvious reasons!) Basically, this park is on the Jersey Side of the River, where you can park to catch a ferry out to the islands. Since this will be a drive-in drive-out, operating from the mobile activation, I probably won't be able to do much CW, but if things go well and work out, I'll probably try to sneak in a few code contacts on the second evening.
I'll also be trying a different logging program on this activation from what I normally use, and if that goes well, I'll write up the details afterwords and give everyone my feedback - I expect this method to be just what I need for WWFF (including easy Park-to-Park logging!), no more, no less.

]]><![CDATA[WWFF KFF-1937 buck Creek State Park]]>Tue, 04 Apr 2017 04:00:00 GMThttps://www.n3vem.com/events/wwff-kff-1937-buck-creek-state-park     This is an activation that I'll be doing during a trip for work - it has been rescheduled twice, but the date is finally firm!  I'll be staying in one of the Cabins in the park, and I'll be on the air both days, after my work for the day is complete.  Start times are approximate - if I finish work early, I'll be on earlier, if I finish late, I'll be on later.  Hopefully I'll hear you on the air!

     During the second full week of February I'll traveling to the Miami, FL area for work (not a bad place to be in the middle of February, compared to the weather at home!) For this trip, I'll be staying inside Oleta River State Park, in one of these:

     Since I'm staying inside the park, I should have plenty of time each evening to make contacts!  I'll be there the evenings of February 15th and 16th.  Keep your eyes peeled on the Cluster and the Facebook Group to see when I pop up, or just listen for me on 20, 40, and 80 meters, sometime after 22:00 UTC each day!

     I will be traveling to Ft Myers, FL at the end of January / Beginning of February.  During this trip I will be activating Big Cypress National Preserve for the US Division of the World Wide Flora and Fauna program.  Since I am traveling for work, my operating time will be in the evenings, after my work day ends.  I can't give exact start times, but look for me sometime after 20:00utc on January 30th, January 31st, and/or February 1st.  I'll be sticking primarily to 20 meters and 40 meters for this one, mostly SSB, but potentially some CW as well.  
     Watch the cluster, the POTA facebook group, and the WWFF facebook group, as these are all the places that you'll likely see notifications that I'm on the air.

]]><![CDATA[Winter Field Day]]>Sat, 28 Jan 2017 05:00:00 GMThttps://www.n3vem.com/events/winter-field-day     I will be participating in Winter Field Day the last weekend of January.  My plan is to be operating 1O (Single Operator, Outdoors) like I did last year (from my back yard!)  I got a couple new pieces of camping gear, and I'm scheming up some new antenna arrangements.  Look for me on all bands from 80m through 70cm (but probably the bulk of the time on 20 and 40.)  Doing SSB, Digital, and maybe CW depending on how brave I get (I'm still a CW noob.)]]>
